Challenge
Car Racing Track Camera
A customer requested a unique point-of-view camera for a race track. The camera needed to be a high-definition camera to offer quality footage yet durable enough to be embedded into a race car track to achieve a gopher's point of view of the race.
Development
The camera required a custom aerodynamic rugged, waterproof housing with the ability to operate in extremely hazardous conditions. Not only did the camera have to survive 40-plus vehicles relentlessly driving over it for 500 laps, but the camera also had to endure the hot temperature of the surrounding asphalt at high noon. It was also important to broadcast the sounds of the engines roaring overhead.
Solution
The InterTest solution was a camera housing custom-created to fit snuggly in the track and house the Sony HD FCB-H11 Camera ( Legacy Sony FCB )whose shape was completely modified to fit in the required space. The housing was also equipped with a microphone and a lens cleaning device allowing the camera operator to send bursts of air to remove any obstructing debris in front of the camera lens during the race.
