The petrochemical industry consists of refining petroleum, or other sources such as coal or natural gas, into petrochemical compounds. Petrochemical compounds are commonly split into 3 categories: olefins (used to make polymer plastics and industrial chemicals), aromatics (used in dyes and detergents), and fuel sources (gasoline, propane, butane).
