The Sony AS-DT1 LiDAR Depth Sensor represents a new generation of compact, high-precision 3D sensing. It combines Sony’s Direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) technology—a ranging method that calculates distance by measuring the time it takes for emitted light to reflect off a subject and return—with a SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Diode) sensor, an electronic device that achieves extremely high sensitivity by using avalanche multiplication to amplify electrons generated from a single photon. Together, these technologies enable accurate, real-time depth measurements at high speed.
Designed for applications requiring precise depth sensing in a compact form factor, the AS-DT1 measures approximately 1.14" × 1.14" × 1.22" (29 × 29 × 31 mm) and weighs 34 grams, making it well-suited for integration into space-constrained systems.
The sensor delivers strong performance in both indoor and outdoor environments. It provides up to ±0.4 cm accuracy indoors and ±2 cm outdoors at 10 meters, while detecting low-reflectivity surfaces and operating reliably in bright ambient lighting. The AS-DT1 supports measurement ranges of up to 40 meters indoors and 20 meters outdoors, enabling dependable depth sensing across a variety of operating conditions.
For system integration, the AS-DT1 supports USB-C and UART connectivity, along with a trigger input for synchronization and control. These features simplify integration for developers building systems that require reliable depth data.
Typical applications include robotics, autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance, industrial automation, and spatial sensing systems where compact size and dependable depth measurement are essential.
