    THE CHALLENGE

    A nuclear power generation customer relied on an aging analog PTZ camera system that no longer met modern inspection or radiation-mitigation standards. The legacy unit offered limited image quality, cumbersome controls, and a housing full of fasteners that trapped contamination and complicated decontamination.

    The customer needed a modernized PTZ solution that could not only pan, tilt, zoom, and illuminate remotely, but also travel along a mounting rail and provide a simple, unified interface for camera control and targeting-laser operation.

    InterTest’s engineering team designed a new PTZ housing with reduced surface area to simplify the nuclear decontamination process. The system incorporates a KTC 10x zoom block camera delivering HD-SDI video, supported by a custom breakout box with an integrated IP encoder for streamlined IP digital transmission.

    To unify system control, InterTest programmed Genetec software to manage all camera and rail functions—focus mode toggling, pan, tilt, zoom, linear travel up and down the rail, and rail rotation—through intuitive hotkeys using ONVIF command protocols. This integration provides operators with a fully digital, consolidated control experience accessible both on-site and remotely.

    THE SOLUTION

    The PTZ Railcam is a modernized, versatile inspection platform that's purpose-built for nuclear operations and remote inspections. Operators can position the camera along the rail, articulate full PTZ motion, adjust focus and illumination, and activate auxiliary features—all within the Genetec interface.

    HD SDI imaging combined with IP-encoded streaming enables secure, multi-user access to live video from any authorized location. The streamlined housing reduces radiation hold-up and simplifies decontamination, while the digital command architecture replaces outdated analog systems with a reliable, flexible, and easily deployed inspection solution.
