The Sony® ZEISS® Sonnar® T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA lens is a compact, high-quality E-mount lens ideal for the Sony ILX-LR1 Industrial Camera. This superb lens has a bright F1.8 aperture, three double-sided aspherical elements to minimize aberration, and a T* anti-reflective lens coating for natural color representation.
Unsurpassed Visual Clarity
This lens leverages Sony’s innovative ZEISS® Sonnar® optical design. Its F1.8 maximum aperture offers stunning contrast and resolution for full-frame E-mount bodies like the Sony ILX-LR1 Industrial Camera, which is used for UAV drone surveillance and inspection.
A big, bright maximum aperture = outstanding sharpness and clarity when shooting handheld or from a UAV drone in low-light conditions.
Aspherical Lens Elements
The aspherical lens design effectively minimizes spherical aberration, resulting in a smaller and lighter lens. The misalignment of light rays on conventional spherical lenses, known as "spherical aberration," can degrade image quality in larger-aperture lenses. To correct this, aspherical elements are strategically placed near the diaphragm to realign the light rays and maintain sharpness and contrast even at maximum aperture. They can also be used at other points in the optical path to reduce distortion.
Additionally, well-designed aspherical elements can decrease the total number of elements needed in the lens, ultimately decreasing its size and weight. The Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements, with their high thickness ratio between the center and periphery, are a superior version that requires advanced molding technology to achieve precise shape and surface accuracy, resulting in highly accurate and quality images.
9-Blade Circular Aperture
The nine-blade circular aperture works with the lens optics to produce a smooth 'bokeh' effect (an out-of-focus background and natural, sharp foreground target). This aperture style avoids the unattractive polygonal shapes created by conventional flat-sided blades in other lenses.
Carl Zeiss T* (T-star) Coating
This exceptional lens showcases the renowned Carl Zeiss T* (T-Star) coating, which Carl Zeiss® first pioneered. This advanced coating effectively eliminates lens flare, internal reflection, and light scattering that may occur at glass-to-air surfaces. It yields superb image quality, providing exceptional contrast and uniformly excellent resolution even at the edges. The T* coating is selectively applied to multi-element lenses that have met the required performance standards across the entire optical path, ensuring the highest level of quality.
Dust and Moisture Resistant
This lens is designed to withstand dust and moisture, making it ideal for rugged outdoor use. It pairs perfectly with weather-resistant cameras for even better protection.
Internal Focusing
This lens's optical system achieves focus by moving only the middle groups, keeping its overall length unchanged. Other notable advantages include quick autofocusing and a close minimum focusing distance. Additionally, the front filter thread remains stationary, making it easy to use a polarizing filter.
Supplied Accessories
Lens hood (ALC-SH131: petal shape, bayonet type), lens front cap, lens rear cap, and case.
